my single and first plant has 2 sets of big leaves and there are more coming in.  The top big set has light or faded spots.  I moved the 65W plant light about 5 inches away (it was hot) and placed a fan that blows above the plant.  The grow medium is homegrown organic (has lots of chicken shit) soil.  Too much nitrogen?  Ordered Flourex lights and will be switching to them when they arrive.   Also, have culligan water that has a ph of 8 (the water usually goes in the salt H2O fish tank with salt added).  Is a ph of 8 good or not good for water?

Thanks for any advice-

you should hav a ph of 7

i still need to learn the pH stuff =/

ya, 8 is too high for ph...also, if you leave drops of water on the leaves....it can magnify the light causing little burn spots...other then that, I duno.

If your growing in soil,Use a little dolomite finely granulated lime...It will balance out the ph levels..

Woaaa! Stay away from the lime!!

Lime is an excellent ph UP!
Using lime at this stage will bring about imminent death of the plant. As a ph down i use sulphate of iron, there are other ph down products, i use the iron because its a nutrient that the plants require, but unlike the NPK you cannot over do the iron, other than the fact that the ph will be too low. The iron sits in the soil and the plant will take it as and when it needs it.
When i was having high ph problems and adding the iron everytime i watered, when i harvested and pulled the roots, they were all rusty coloured. These three plants that got the large amounts of iron, have been my best yielders to date. I cannot do it now, the water i use is now too acidic and requires me to add the lime.
Whenever your adjusting the ph, do it in steady increments. Ive found that whatever you add, takes 2-3 days to level off for an acurate reading.
My friends plants were around 4.5 ph, he kept adding bicarbonate of soda all at once until the ph hit around 6.6. Two days later the plants were dead. Not just dead and green, dead and fully dried out to a light autumn brown colour.

I have to disagree..I have been using dolomite lime for quite some time now. It balances out the ph of soil, not cranks it up!!..where did you hear that?..Its a great stabilizer.  It even states this in many grow books, even ed rosenthal says it works in this manner......I have been using it in every grow with nothing but excellant results...I have seen thumbs up reports after using lime... I never seen anyone having ph problems if they used dolomite lime from the beginning. My plants are very healthy....With soil you "keep it simple",and dont go overboard with iron and bicarbonate of soda, and shit like that..Does mother nature use all this?First thing you get when you grow in soil...and thats an EXCELLANT mixture.Dont go with cheap garbage..not worth it.  I personally have a regimen i follow, and thats why my plants are pretty decent. Its a secret recipe that has given me 4 plus oz's per plant..And iam no liar. But then again Clueless, your thing may work for you..Every grow is different...and no 2 plants are the same.Every body has there own gig,Iam not in any way dissing you..Iam just saying the Dolomite lime works for me.But the iron thing has me thinking..Hey Clueless,...pm me when you get a chance....    Peace bro :)

I don't know how lime can be a 'balancer' to any ph level.
Lime has a high ph so added to an acidic ph, it would help to balance it out. If you already have a high ph, the lime would send it even higher. For it to be an all round balancer, the ph of the lime would have to become opposite to the ph of what it is added to, i cannot see how a substance could adapt in such a way.
Its not the lime in itself thats deadly to the plant, its adding a high ph substance to an already high ph that is going to kill the plant.

Im not doubting your results LUVDE, adding the lime at the beggining can offer the buffer from an intense ferting scedule or a low ph water/soil. I find every ferting i have to add a little ph up. I don't fert untill 12/12 so adding lime at the beggining would give me an undesirable high ph.

Man, you cannot quote mother nature in your defence, most of the techniques we(the growers) incorporate are to sheild where mother nature attacks, to strengthen her weaknesses and to exploit her strength's
