so why is it called a cold frame and what does it do?

Its like a minuter green house. Actually it not suppose to have a bottom, and the "frame" is supposed to be lifted right over the seedlings.
Usually put up against a house. Mines 8'x34"x33", made with an 8' pallet on the bottom. nice for air circulation, I hope.
Gets them out of the house were they are starting to stink and the boss says they got to go, so thats what drove me to build. All left over stuff around the house.

That's a nice cold frame blah! Looks pretty roomy. It oughtta work well for getting your plants ready for the outdoors.
I think you could probably get away with leaving them outside in that, where they're exposed to some temp variations but are protected from the brunt of the elements.
You've got construction talent, dude! You should build a nice indoor grow cabinet next!
