What can someone do with my IP address?
It is hard to pinpoint a person by an IP address unless it is a static IP address. Typically only companies or educational institutions have static IP addresses. Mapping a logged on user to a certain IP address is usually not an easy task. It is very difficult to get user information out of an ISP.
The ISP usually either doesn't have the information you need or are not willing to give it to you.
We routinely scan our banned member list and compare their IP addresses against our member list to weed out any “repeat offenders” from returning to Growkind.com and causing further disruptions to this forum. IP logging is merely one of many tools used in this ongoing process of keeping the forum troll free.
