to clip or not to clip?

My hubby and I have grown our first plant..It is becoming quite beautiful. We had no clue what we were doing and just threw a couple seeds in a pot and when it began to sprout we planted it in our backyard garden!! WOO HOO it is budding like crazy and is almost to our roof...The question is when do we or do we need to clip away some of the leaves? We normally buy, so we do not know the first thing about growing, clipping etc..Can anybody offer advice??

High Roxy and welcome to growkind.
Don't cut any of the leaves off until after you harvest.
Harvest when 75 % of the bud hairs change from clear/milky to brown/red.
